Operation Christmas Child

    Shoeboxes (Devizes)

In spite of not having a local organiser for the Devizes area we sent off 330 shoeboxes to Operation Christmas Child as a result of the shoe box packing day on Sat. 5th November. Well done to everyone who helped/donated.
Notes from the Devizes Shoebox Appeal meeting on 12th August 2016

Sara Artingstall outlined options for Devizes to continue with its involvement in Operation Christmas Child.

As there is currently no Co-ordinator for the Devizes area it appears that the best option for us this year is to have a packing day at St Andrew’s Church on Saturday November 5th, 9.00 am – 12 noon.  The filled boxes and any remaining items will then be collected from St Andrew’s by Steve Lloyd, Area Co-ordinator for Operation Christmas Child, and taken to the central packing warehouse.

We currently have enough money to send just over 100 boxes and already have sufficient items to fill these boxes.

During the collection weeks (1st to 18th November) Haines and Smith Opticians will allow their premises to be used as a drop-off point for filled boxes and other items. It is possible that other businesses and churches may also agree to do this. Information will be available on the Samaritan’s Purse website and in the local press.

As transport costs are so high it is important that sufficient money is sent with the boxes to cover the cost of sending them abroad. £3.00 per box is the minimum amount needed. (Please don’t put the money inside a packed shoebox as it may not be noticed, but place in an envelope and hand to a collector.)

Over the years Operation Christmas Child in Devizes has had an excellent team of supporters and many hundreds of boxes have been sent abroad. However, it is becoming more and more difficult to find storage space for items and the role of Co-ordinator for the area remains vacant.

We’re grateful to all who have helped in the past and hope that other ways of supporting the charity may be found in the future.

Best wishes
Sheila Mitchell
